How to get rid of things - Smart Solution #1

The other day I was at my friend's house; she was showing me her new refrigerator. One of the things that she noticed when she transferred all the items from the old refrigerator to the new one was how many condiments she had. Why and how did she have so many? I suggested a way for her to sort through and keep only the ones she really needs and toss the ones she doesn't. This method can be used for anything. I did it last year for my kitchen utensils. You might find it useful for your bathroom closet or your desk drawer.

Step 1: Take all the items you are trying to sort through and place them in a box.
Step 2: Take out only the items that you use - WHEN you need them. Do not anticipate future usage.
Step 3: Maintain this routine for a month.
Step 4: After a month, get rid of all the remaining items that are in the box.

The thought here is that if you haven't used an item in a month, you probably don't need it or use it often enough to keep it. Do you really need highlighters in every color of the rainbow or do you really only use the yellow one? Do you really need seven hammers when you have two favorite ones that can do any job?

Good Luck and be sure to let me know how it goes!

Until next time...Amy
